Fly-Ash Cement gives higher 28-day strength

Recent years have witnessed numerous cases of premature deterioration of concrete structures. Simultaneously, the urgent need to inculcate durability approach in the design and construction of structures has come to the forefront. As a result, durability design provisions in standards of many countries have become more stringent. Among the many factors that govern the durability and performance of concrete in service, type of cement receives greater attention. The use of fly ash concrete in construction is a solution to environmental degradation in coastal environment or other aggressive environment.

Studies have shown that the compressive strength of concrete made with PPC exhibits lower strength gain during initial stages but exhibits higher strength at 28 days age.

Also resistance to chloride ingress is more in PPC made concrete. Therefore, in case of coastal environment/aggressive environment where distress due to chloride ingress is critical, PPC is more durable than OPC.
